Nick
Castaneda was born and raised in a small mining
town of Clifton and Morenci, Arizona. He attended
Eastern Arizona College in Thatcher, Arizona and
graduated with an Associates Degree in General
Education. Mr. Castaneda spent 2 years in the U.S.
Army serving tours in Germany and Vietnam. He was
honorably discharged in 1971 and is currently a
member of the American Legion in Clifton and Veterans
of Foreign War in Safford, Arizona.
Mr. Castaneda was elected to serve on the Clifton School Board of Education.
He held the position of president and was a member for 6 years. Mr. Castaneda
was employed by Phelps Dodge Mining Incorporated in the Smelter Division as a
labor. He transferred to the Surface Department and later took a salary position
in Planning and Scheduling. He then was promoted to Supervisor of Milling, Crushing
and Tailing Disposal. He retired from there in February 2001.
Mr. Castaneda was appointed to the position of the Constable # 1 on January 17,2006.
